Anthropology and Geology Museums at USU - Joy of the Earth

We took advantage of some of the amazing resources at USU to learn more about the earth.
Of course running on Old Main Hill and enjoying the beautiful fall colors was fun too!

At the anthropology museum we learned about people from other times.  While we waited the children had some great guesses for what the pictures on this rock are.

The boys were very interested in the weapons.
We learned that before Macey's and Walmart people would hunt and gather their food clothing and everything they needed to survive.

This is one of the weapons they would use to hunt.

These four were curious about eating the grass hoppers, but no one was brave enough to put it in their mouth.

Everyone got a turn grinding the corn.

We each even got to try on this unusual mask.

The geology museum was fascinating as well.  There were amazing fossils. Rocks that glowed in the dark. Dinosaurs bones and all kinds of "weird rocks".

The children got to touch and enjoy some really amazing rocks.

There is so much JOY to be found in this incredible EARTH!

Stokes Nature Center - Joy of the Earth

There are many clues that it is fall.  We've been using our five senses to explore the world and went to Stokes Nature Center to continue our exploring.

It was fun to discover the colors and the beauty of the world.

We were on a treasure hunt for "interesting" things. There was so much to discover!

We are so thankful for the beautiful earth we have been given to enjoy!

Where does food come from? Joy of the Earth

Eggs come from Chickens . . . and chickens are soft too.

Beens and all plants grow from seeds.

Carrots grow in the ground.

Look at that giant cabbage!!

You can eat the seeds that come from a sunflower!

Thank you Tuller family for your industry and for letting us enjoy your chicken's, garden, bee's and yard!!

The Joy of the Body 09/22 and 09/24

09/22- Today we discovered what our bodies can do. We talked about healthy foods and things we can do to take good care of our bodies. We got to try out an obstacle course and enjoyed the weather outside. We also got to have a little more fun with play-dough today.

09/24- We focused on what a blessing it is to have a healthy body. We crawled around the floor and compared our bodies to many different animals and talked about the differences.

The highlight of the day was when we watched a couple of short video clips that showed children with different disabilities. We discussed how although we are all very different everyone is equally important. One little girl was born without arms but was still able to accomplish great things with her feet. The children took the next activity very serious where they tried to move blocks around with only their feet. They were able to put all the blocks away without using their hands and gained a new appreciation for their bodies.

Lining up to wash their hands before snack time.
They loved their free time playing in the toy room.

The Joy of the Body 9/15 and 9/17

Joy school 9/15 and 9/17- Today we learned about our body and our five senses. We discovered the importance of eyes and ears and felt objects with many different textures and shapes. Then I found some entertainment as I let them smell and taste a large variety of things. We sang silly songs, read books, and ended the day with a game of Ispy.

Play dough time is always a hit!

We talked about their names and attempted to learn the first letters and their sounds.
